After graduating from Boston University, Susan lived and worked in California and Massachusetts and then settled in New York City. She worked as a research analyst for WNEW-FM radio and became interested in pursuing a real estate career when she rented a Riverdale apartment in 1972. Within two years, Susan was licensed as a real estate broker and by 1981 had established her own agency, Susan E. Goldy, Inc., specializing in the sale and rental of residential real estate.

 

In 1982 she was selected as a member of the Board of Governors of the Bronx Board of Realtors, and served two terms as Board President in 1996 and 1997. During her tenure, the Education Department was expanded to include the prestigious GRI courses, MLS was computerized, and the organization’s jurisdiction was expanded, leading to its name being changed to the Bronx-Manhattan Association of Realtors. (It has since been changed to its current form, the Bronx- Manhattan North Association of Realtors.)

 

Susan’s participation in the real estate industry involved not just local-level concerns but state and national issues as well. Through the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR), she has been chair or an active member of virtually every committee including Education Management, Equal Opportunity, IMF, International Real Estate, Professional Standards, Legislative Policy, and Organizational Planning. For the National Association of Realtors (NAR), she is currently a federal political coordinator for designated Members of Congress and state elected officials. They hear often from Susan as she advocates Realtor positions on bills that would impact consumers and real estate practitioners.

 

Susan's strong personal and professional interest in the growth and vitality of her community and of her borough led her to become a staunch supporter of many Bronx institutions. She served on the Board of Directors for the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp (BOEDC); of a local nursery school, the Spuyten Duyvil Infantry; and currently she is on the Board of the Riverdale Neighborhood House. Her professional memberships include NAR( National Association of Realtors), the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) and Leading Real Estate Companies of the World.

 Susan believes continued professional education is “a must” and has taken many courses on appraisal, mediation, and management, among others. Susan is a RELO Certified Coordinator(RCC). She has also earned the prestigious GRI designation(Graduate Realtor Institute), one of the few nationally recognized advanced Realtor degrees offered by the NAR. She has the SRES (Senior Real estate Specialist) designation and in 2006, Susan also joined a small number of realtors worldwide who have qualified for the CIPS designation( Certified International Property Specialist ).

Her honors include: 1991 Bronx Business Woman of the Year (Bronx County Historical Society), 1995 Woman of the Year (YMCA), 1998 Realtor of the Year (Bronx-Manhattan North Association of Realtors), 1995 and 2001Realtors Honor Society (NYSAR), 2002 Recognition for her participation in the Realtor Relief Fund to aid the families of 9/11 victims (NAR), the 2004 Business Woman of the Year (Kingsbridge Riverdale Van Cortlandt Development Corporation), and 2005 Recognition for her contribution to the urban community (Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce). She has twice received Citations of Merit from different Bronx Borough Presidents as well as Proclamations from the CityCouncil of New York , NY State Senate and a Legislative Resolution from the State of New York Assembly, all asrecognition for her voluntary civic contributions.

She has served on panel discussions, had speaking engagements, been a guest columnist for real estate publications, appeared on TV, and is often interviewed by print and TV reporters.

Susan E. Goldy resides in the Riverdale community. Her  children, Jason and Lauren, are both attorneys who  work in Manhattan. She is gratified that they share her enthusiasm and love for New York City and their communities.
